We Object!

We stand with young people to end child marriage.

Young people around the world are vowing to end child marriage

Every year, 12 million girls are married before their 18th birthday — that’s one girl every three seconds.

Child marriage steals girls’ childhoods. It forces them out of school, exposes them to violence, and takes away their right to choose their own future.

This International Women’s Day, Plan International is standing with youth activists around the world to say:

#WeObject

We object to a world where girls are forced into marriage.

We object to harmful traditions and social norms that deny girls their rights.

And we stand for a future where every girl can choose if, when and whom to marry.

Girls are leading the movement

Across the world, courageous girls and young activists are speaking out against child marriage in their communities.

For International Women’s Day, Plan International’s Global Young Influencers — a group of 30 youth activists from 30 countries — have created a Youth Manifesto to End Child Marriage and Unions.

Together, they declare:

“Marriage should be a choice made in freedom and love, not a fate decided by duty or someone else’s decision.”

Our vows

We are a diverse group of young leaders from across the world, united by a shared commitment to gender equality and girls’ rights.

We object to child marriage. Here are our vows. Will you join us?

Stand with girls. Say #WeObject.

Girls around the world are leading the fight to end child marriage.

This International Women’s Day, join them by adding your voice to the movement.

Together, we can build a world where every girl can learn, grow and choose her own future.
