You Can Leave a Better World for Girls

Standing with Plan International Ireland means standing in solidarity with girls as they claim their rights and shape their own futures. Since 1937, Plan International has worked alongside girls and their communities worldwide to challenge inequality and drive lasting change but the fight for equality is far from over.

In many places, girls’ rights are still denied or under threat, and conflict and humanitarian crises are making life even harder. By leaving a gift in your will, you can help ensure more girls can learn, be safe and lead-supporting long-term change that empowers girls and strengthens communities for generations to come.

What is a Gift in Will?

A gift in your will (sometimes known as a legacy) is a way of leaving something meaningful to your family, friends and organisations you care about after you die. A will isn’t just paperwork – it’s power.  When you make your will, you take control of your legacy and how you’re remembered.

You can give a fixed sum of money, a percentage of your estate, or specific personal belongings. We have more information about the different types of gifts you can give in our Gifts in Will Guide

Free Online Will Writing Service

Writing or amending your will need not be difficult or expensive. Plan International Ireland offers a Free Will Service for our supporters and their partners. You can create a simple will, free of charge, using an online will writing service. We are a charity partner of FreeWill Ireland. The FreeWill offering will be suitable for many people, but for those with more complex circumstances, it is generally recommended to use the services of a solicitor.

There’s no obligation to do so, but we would be extremely grateful if you could support us with a gift in your will.

The Girls Writing their Own Futures: Made Possible with a Gift in Your Will

A girl in front of a sewing machine
Roumana, 17, Togo, is a proud sewing apprentice, earning money by sewing clothes for others and regaining her confidence.

In Togo, a quarter of girls are married before they are 18. Roumana’s aunt unsuccessfully tried to marry her to an older man at 10 years old.

Plan International helped Roumana recover from this traumatic experience. She received specialist support and enrolled in a sewing apprenticeship. “Today, I am proud to be a seamstress. I have learnt how to make clothes, which helps me earn a little money,” says Roumana.

A gift in your will to Plan International could protect thousands more girls like Roumana from child marriages and ensure they can write their own futures.

“Plan International has given me my confidence and courage back, they have kept me smiling despite everything I have been through.”

Meet Ann Who Is Leaving a Gift in Her Will to Plan

"I’d encourage everyone to leave a legacy. It’s one of the good things you can do in your life.”

Ann, a retired care worker from Cork, has been sponsoring a child for 18 years and is leaving Plan International Ireland a gift in her will.

“It’s important to leave something, to make the world a better place for girls.

I want a world where all children can access education. When girls are educated, it will get them jobs. It will lift their community out of poverty, because they will help their parents, and they will help their communities. Education is the big thing.

I’m leaving a legacy to Plan International, because I won’t be able to give anymore, so that will be my last gift.”
