Our child protection work is about preventing and responding to abuse, neglect, exploitation, and all forms of violence against children.
Violence against children and adolescents can take many forms — physical, emotional, or psychological — and it affects their health and wellbeing.
Girls and young women face specific risks such as early and forced marriage, female genital mutilation (FGM), child trafficking, and sexual exploitation. Boys are also at risk, particularly through hazardous labour or recruitment by armed groups.
Children living in crises, conflict, or emergency situations face even greater risks. They can be physically harmed, separated from their families, trafficked, or subjected to sexual violence. Schools, hospitals, and essential services may be attacked or blocked, while life-saving humanitarian assistance is often delayed.
In these situations, we provide safe spaces, child-friendly reporting systems, and access to protection services.
Our programmes are delivered both as standalone initiatives and integrated into education, sexual and reproductive health, and other areas. We ensure they are gender-responsive and inclusive, with a strong focus on sexual and gender-based violence and child labour.
Our goal is a world where children, adolescents, and young people — especially girls and young women — are protected from violence and harmful gender norms and can grow up safe and supported.
