The Plan International Ball 2019
The 2019 ball

Every year, 12 million girls worldwide are married before the age of 18 that is almost one every 2 seconds. While early and child marriage affects both girls and boys, the impact on girls is much greater. Girls growing up in poverty or facing crisis, conflict or disaster are particularly at risk.

Child marriage violates girls’ human rights and robs them of their childhood. Girls who are married before they turn 18 are more likely to experience domestic violence and less likely to stay in school. They are often forced to have children before their bodies are ready. In communities where child marriage happens, we work with girls to ensure they know their rights. We’re educating families on the risks of child marriage and supporting communities to ensure girls are valued, and their voices are heard.

By attending the Plan International Ireland ball this March, we will ensure, together, we can drive donations to help end child marriage by providing the services to support the world’s most vulnerable girls.
