Why child sponsorship?

 1.  Because it works. Plan has over 75 years experience of working for children's rights throughout the developing and we have know that it is through child sponsorship that we can best achieve our goals of helping the world's poorest and most vulnerable children, raising awareness of the issues facing children and engaging with a global movement of child sponsors to fight for children's rights.

2.  You are helping a whole community to overcome poverty. We do not believe in direct benefit, but rather child-centred community development. Plan's commitment to each community means that the health, sanitation and education programmes that we establish are long-term and sustainable.

3.  You sponsorship will support life-saving projects, such as providing clean water, food, child immunisation and much more. Your

sponsorship will make an immediate and lasting impact to the lives of those who need it most.

4.  Through child sponsorship, you become an active participant in ending child poverty. Together, through a focused, hands-on and collaboration approach between you and your sponsorship and Plan and the communities, we can make change happen.

Write

As a sponsor, you can write to your sponsored child. Share your life with someone in need and in return, you will receive letters, drawings and notes from your sponsored child.

Visit

As a sponsor, you can visit your sponsored child. Many of our sponsors have met with their sponsored children and seen, through their own eyes, the impact of their support. You can too!

See

As a sponsor, you receive, not only communication from your sponsored child, but also regular and relevant updates from Plan specific projects benefiting your sponsored child and their community, thus allowing you to see the difference you are making every step of the way!

Who is Plan Ireland?

As part of global children's development organisation Plan International, Plan Ireland opened in Dublin's Baggot Street in 2003.

We share our parent organisation's goal of bringing lasting improvements to the lives of children in need wherever they live, whatever their circumstances. Today Plan is one of the world's largest development organisations.

Where your money goes?

How we spend your moneyPlan Ireland makes every effort to operate as efficiently as possible. 

In financial year 2011, 84% of our expenditure was directed towards the implementation of programme specific projects across the 48 developing countries where we operate.

The remaining 16% was channeled in the running of the Irish office, supporting our Development Education programmes with Irish children, attracting new sponsors and upholding the highest standard of governance across all our work..

Plan's Accountability

Plan is one of the few global organizations to publish combined worldwide financial statements that detail our fundraising and spending. In December 2008 we were named one of the top performers in the One World Trust annual global accountability report. The independent report ranks 30 of the world’s most influential corporations, intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations on accountability and transparency.

Plan Ireland is fully compliant with the Irish Development NGO’s Code of Corporate Governance. Good governance ensures an organisation is effectively and properly run and meets the needs for which the organisation was set up.
