Irish Aid funds for Plan's Pakistan response
26/08/10 - The Minister of State for Overseas Development, Mr. Peter Power T.D., today announced the allocation of €150,000 to Plan Ireland for its emergency response programme in flood stricken Pakistan.
Announcing the allocation, which is to be paid through the Government’s programme for overseas development, Irish Aid, Minister Power said:
“Millions of people are at immediate risk of life-threatening illnesses and starvation in Pakistan. I have today allocated funding to a number of agencies working to alleviate their plight and, in particular, that of the many thousands of children who are suffering the effects of this catastrophe”.
Welcoming the news Plan Ireland CEO, David Dalton, said that this latest allocation from Irish Aid was very heartening and would help colleagues in Pakistan to implement life-saving programmes for children caught up in the catastrophe. Read More
However he reiterated the need for continued public donations. "This is a disaster of epic proportions" he said. "Many millions of people, the majority of them women and children, are homeless, vulnerable and in urgent need of assistance".
