Plan Ireland is a registered charity in Ireland (charity number CHY15037) and is constituted as a company limited by guarantee (company number 359578).
One of 18 national organisations working for the rights of children, families and communities in some of the world's poorest countries, Plan Ireland is internationally associated with Plan International, Inc. ('Plan Inc').
At least 80c in every euro a donor donates is spent on supporting and delivering our development work to improve the lives of children and communities in the world’s poorest countries. The remaining 20c is spent on maintaining an international network of support staff, and on fundraising and governance essential in facilitating our development work.
In 2011, of every €1 donated to us, we spent 86c on our supporting and delivering our development work and 14c on fundraising, governance and administration.
This structure allows Plan to invest as much of our funds in development projects as possible, which directly supports the beneficiary children, their families and communities, whilst keeping costs at a minimum and reducing the risk of duplication.
Last year Plan raised over €500 million globally, primarily through child sponsorship. Sponsorship is a stable and predictable source of income, which means we can plan and carry out long-term development projects.
Where our money comes from
The majority of Plan’s funds are sourced from child sponsorship, public donations, private organisations, grants secured from Irish Aid and the EU. For the 2011 financial year our funds came from the following sources:
